The aim
The aim was to use the memon® transformer to reduce the use of chlorine and thus the related negative side-effects, such as skin irritation and allergies. Naturally, the relevant standards and guidelines for water quality were also to be upheld.
The test
As part of a pilot project, the Health Department in Uelzen took several water samples from the Stadensen open air pool. Prior to this, the use of chlorine had been reduced and a memon® transformer fitted. The water tested was taken from the play area, swimmers’ entrance and the slide.
The result
Despite the reduction in the use of chlorine, the water in all cases met the requirements of DIN 19643. In fact, the requirements were surpassed and the results with memon and less chlorine were better than without memon and with more chlorine. This was also confirmed by measurements by the Suderberg Technical College (now the University of Lüneberg). The maximum value for total coli-bacteria measured is 1500, the value in Stadensen was 0.
The benefits of using memon® were so clear that even visitors to the pool who knew nothing about the experiment were constantly praising the quality of the pool water. In the years since, a large number of measurements have been taken, which have time and again proved the good quality of the pool water.
